Introduction

About the Surveyor
The Surveyor is designed to assess the length of the urethra from the bladder neck to the bottom side of the external sphincter. These two landmarks are important to correct Spanner sizing as they are the anchoring points for the stent. The Surveyor consists of an inflation tube with a balloon on the proximal end and a hand piece on the distal end. A lumen extends from an inflation port stopcock on the hand piece to the balloon, and is used to inject fluid to inflate the balloon. A short probe encircles the inflation tube and slides along the tube length between the balloon and a stop. A probe wire is attached to the probe tip; it extends along the length of the Surveyor through the stop and wire guide, where it is attached to a probe wire handle. The Surveyor is provided in a separate sterile package and comes with a coudé-tip.

Surveyor Measurement
The Surveyor is introduced into the meatus and advanced through the urethra to the bladder. The balloon on the device is then inflated with 5cc sterile water and then seated in the bladder neck. The physician then advances the probe tip along the shaft of the Surveyor until it reaches the external sphincter. A measurement is then made to assess which size Spanner device to use, followed by deflation of the balloon and removal of the device.
