This Month In History:

July 12, 1540 - English King Henry VIII decreed that every year two bodies of dead prisoners would be given to the United Barber-Surgeon Company for learning anatomy. Barbers did the majority of surgeries in the 1500's, hence the red and white "barber poles" symbolizing bleeding and bandaging.
